 So...

Doing my weekly water change... siphon some water out, clean one of the filters... la la la... clean the filter, fill tank almost to the top, wife yells, "time for kids to go to bed"

So I wander upstairs, tuck the kids in, take my time, look at my Betta's, doing good, feed them, turn their light off, move downstairs, and Blam! Only 1/2 the water left in my 55Gal... ugh... Whole living room is a flood, water leaking through the hardwood into my basement, carpets all wet now too, OMG!

And the culprit, my Marineland Canister Filter... leaking at the Valve Head when I placed it back... spraying water inside my stand...

Marineland, you let me down! I think my next step in life before contacting customer service is preventing my wife from divorcing me... lol... ugh... :'(

Cheebs

Gah!! That's terrible!!!

Sorry about all that hapening to you, at least the little ones got to bed clueless of the whole thing ;)

The dogs bath towel has saved me a couple of times too !  Good thing the fish are okay!

Nerine

I feel your pain!!!  Fluval has let me down on many occasions!! I usually sit and stare for at least 20 minutes and freak over every little water droplet I see!

It's happened to me too, with my Rena XP3... all over the hardwood and into the basement... it's no fun.

Yikes.. I hope the damage to the house is not too bad.  Water through hardwood is not generally a good thing.  Not sure if a dehumidifier would be enough to stop any permanent damage.  You might have to wait until the next big storm and throw a tree through your window to make it look like an act of nature so that insurance will cover replacement of the hardwood......

Well..

Placed the fans on the floor overnight + asked neighbor for his demidifier + mine and seems the floor is holding up, no major damage visable sans behind the aquarium stand, the Hardwood looks sorta demo'd.

But good news, Called Marineland for their filter, and after 5 minutes on hold to talk to someone, and 1 minute of talking to a customer service rep, the part is on the way. By far the best customer service experience I have ever had, which makes me torn. Amazing Customer Service, not sure if it was a fluke accident or what, but going to pass my vote in favour of Marineland and their products and continue to place my trust in them I think

(I also own 4 of their Double Bright LED Strips, work very well)

All in all... after an aquarium change never walk away from your aquarium, moniter it for a few minutes!

Ugh... and there I was trying to convince my fiancee to let me move the 59g upstairs.

It's not adding much to the decor where it is now (unfinished basement) but being 15ft from a huge sink and floor drain is just too convenient.

I hope you'll be able to recover from this quick enough !!  Nothing wasted in the basement ? Any stains or water marks on the hardwood ?  What about base plates / mouldings and sheet rock at the bottom of the walls ?
