Where do squirrels make their home when they don't have the option of a hole in a tree?

Greatwhite

Generally a leafy nest in a tree...  Unless, like the jerks down the street, you chop down your trees on Dec 1 leaving them homeless.  Fortunately for those squirrels, it's a mild winter.

They'll find a hole in a shed, garage, attic etc. And build a nest...

I was photographing some squirrels "harvesting" leaves in my back yard over the weekend. Those images will appear in one of by blog entries sometime this week (maybe even today if I get all/some my other job jar items done).

I've seen bundles of leaves in the crook of trees and thought they must be squirrel
nest but they don't look that sturdy and I've never seen a squirrel around them.
Thanks  :)

They are rats, they will survive..... Someone attic, basement etc... pesky things they are.  Yes they make a sorta nest in the tops of trees.

Around my house, the only squirrel nests I have found have been in the insulation under my sunroom.
Rumor has it rat traps work just fine.

^^ this is true  ;) nessesary for home invasions. Dont forget BBQ's, damn red squirrel nearly gave me a heart attack when it jumped off my chest upon opening the BBQ for the first time last spring. The red ones are the nasty ones!!!

I posted a photo of a black squirrel on my Flickr site and one of the comments I got back included this link.
