From what I read, an ultraviolet light/filter would be the best way to get rid of my green water problem. I have a 55 gallon, corner unit and I have been quoted a price of $190 for the appropriate size of unit. My question is, does this price seem right to people, or is this price inflated by the fact that I am dealing with a small town store. Is there a better price out there?
Life is full of questions. Chocolate is the answer.

Personally, I would try to treat the problem at its source, before investing on costly hardware.

What is the cause of your green water, new tank syndrome, water quality, fish load, too much light or direct sunlight, etc..

my 2 cents.

If you are only using it for the green water, and will take the uv sterilizer out after the problem is solved, petsmart has the "green killing machine" or something like that for $70.  It is a 24 watt bulb and says it can handle a 100+ gal tank.  I used one on a 46 gal and my tank was completely clear of green water in like 48 hours (good mechanical filtration is also necessary to clear up the dead algae)

I have  UV Light on my 26g high tech and it keeps the water crystal clear, I have been very pleased with the results the water quality is awesome. I only run it at night for a few hours, I put it on a timer.
To answer your question UV sterilizers can get expensive depending on the unit, I have a coral life 26 watt unit and it ran me about the 190. So the quote you were given doesn't seem super high, but again that depends on the brand.

didn't realized you had another thread..Green Cloud open about possible causes.

I will post any future suggestions there!
