Hi!
I've got this stuff in my tank.  It's brown, soft, thread-like.  I've seen pictures of both algae and diatoms in this shape, and the root causes are different... I'd like to know what it is so I can move towards resolution!

Thanks for any help!

Cladophora or blanket weed algae. Add some macro and micro nutrients. Increase co2 or excel.

Hmm... I really don't think it is.  It's not green, it's super soft, and it doesn't branch.

On this page, it looks most like the diatoms in colour.  It has the rhizo shape, but not green.

From the pics, it does look like Rhizo and its stated that it can be green or Brown too? Could be it.

Increase co2 or excel.

Looks like Excel is the plan, and adding more water movement.  I moved the filter way off into a corner, and i think this may be a factor.

And Eric, cladophora isn't so far off now that I've learned it IS green!  I busted out my kid's microscope, and under that, it is definitely green.   So I am dealing with an algae for sure.
