Hey i was doing some research on coraline.neat organism but not much info released on the researches involved. Although i did read that there were different colors of coraline but that they would not grow unless introduced to the tank.i was wondering if anyone has experienced different colors and if i should get some. Would be cool to habve a few colors of coraline growing. Get some sort of army design out of it or somethi.g lol

Cheers

There is most definitely different colours growing in most people's tanks I would assume. There are different shades of the regular purple, but there is also red shades, orange shades and probably more. There is even different growth styles. There is plating, encrusting, and I am getting this kind of bark like thick but very light bushy kind of growth in some areas. Some nice coralline growth can be as beautiful as corals.

I just use kalk in my new tank 120g  & coraline it's everywhere within a few months ny guess it's causing all these it's the kalkwasser.

It does have an encrusting nature. But the orange will not grown in the tank unless its introduced. Ive noticed different shades of coraline and watch it die off and come back. I guess as water paramaters change. Im still getting a handle for the bigger system. I notice it turn lighter then another layer grows on top. I like the framing you can do. Its like a pictogram. Or whatever they call those. I like the effect.

Does anyone have some colors and does anyone object to introducing new colors of coraline? If anyone could spare some scrapings that would be cool.

It might have more to do with lighting. It seems when I change lighting I get different versions of algae. If you think about it, even a tank that starts with dry rock and new substrate will grow coralline. My orange colours grow in my sump and not in my display. Different light in the sump obviously. Not sure scrapings will do much if the algae doesn't like your lighting or parameters.

I have seen Orange / Deep Red / Red / Purple all in my tank but always in different areas.. never together.  All depends on lighting.  Orange is a low / no light from what it seems.. Reds are more medium and Purple.. well.. its all over the place.
