How long do you keep your lights on during the day?

I think there was a poll on this a while back am i right?

I've read 10-12 is healthy and too much could cause algea.

12 is normal... some people do 14... but normally 12 is the standard.

and any ideas on cooling the hood?

because i run 2 15watt compacts on a 10gal and its gets hot but i don't want to burn it.

I'm running a 36 watt on my ten... no worries.

Unless you are running lots of bulbs, passive cooling (air vent in the hood, etc...) is good enough.
