Why is a german blue ram called that?! Firstly it doesn't come from Germany and secondly, at least going by the ones I have, there is nothing blue about them! Well perhaps a tiny bit over the gill cover but still, not enough to warrant having blue in its name.

Jim

well it has a good ring to it what more of a reason do you need?

BigDaddy

Because the guy who found them, Ramirez, sent a whack load of 'em off to Germany for identification I believe.

And when they are mature, they have a gorgeous blue iridenscent speck all over them.

My "German Blue Rams" actually have a lot of blue in them.

I started thinking about this question in relation to other fish...

- Cobalt Blue Zebra:  Why is it called "Zebra"?  They have very little to no stripage
- Red Empress: are mostly blue with a small amount of red
- Lemon Yellow Jake:  I can't find anything Lemon or Yellow about these
- and on, and on...
