I'm thinking of adding an AC 70 on my 65g. low tech planted. Neons and other smallish tetras.

Is the 70 to much?

No problem. Could run the 110 no problem as well.

I agree. An AquaClear 70 will be just fine. Done it myself for years. If you want a higher 'tech' tank with more lighting and CO2, you probably would want to consider more flow than the 70 will provide though.

When I first started my 75 and 90 gallon, I found my older AC300's (AC70's are the new ones) not being able to fit over the lip of the tank.  Not sure if a 65 gallon has the same width lip or not.

Not a problem on the 65 gallon tanks.
