DIY Filters

Hi all

  So I figured that  actual sponge filters or box filters for all my tanks would be a pricey endeavor, but I wanted something.

  After seeing something online, I decided to try to make something similar.
Still working out the actual details on it, but here is the first prototype.

  It is a small mason jar, with a plastic pot scrubber on the bottom (as a spacer), some bio media (which could be changed for carbon if needed), and a sponge on the top.
   A rigid pipe will run down the center with an airline tube.

The details to change, getting the correct jar size, as it is slightly too big and I needed to run a bead of silicone around the top to remove the gap around the edges. Need to test out whether a simple airline will work or if I should glue in a piece of rigid to keep it secure.

That is a lot of bio media via the pot scrubber, ceramic media and sponge,it begs the question - what is the advantage of this over a DIY sponge filter?

The advantage would be the option to use it as media filter as well. For carbon or zeolite etc..
