Q about Pythons

Quick question (and forgive me if this is a stupid one :roll: )

My tank is in the basement but I do not have a sink down there.  Will a python work properly from my kitchen sink upstairs to the tank downstairs?

I doubt that you could empty a tank in the basement into a sink upstairs...the draw would be too high but you likely have a basement sewer drain so that's not a problem.  Filling a tank in the basement wouldn't be a problem since the water is flowing downhill.

If you have a lot of pressure at the kitchen sink.. it will drain.

But as Nelson said, don't expect a ton of suction... you'll end up flushing a lot of good water down the drain trying to pull the water up a level.

I was doing this initially. Not the kitchen sink, but the laundry area sink. (We have first floor laundry.) But as mentioned the suction is very poor and a ton of water gets dumped down the drain that wouldn't otherwise.

What I've started to do is Nelson's suggestion... Down the basement drain when I'm gravel vac'ing or water changing and then I use the python to fill from up stairs.

Lucky for me this is only a temporary situation as we're instally a sink in the basement this summer in the furnace room area as we're refinishing the entire basement (well, what's left to be redone, anyway, already part way there) and there's plans for a tank to go into one of the walls. Two large tanks - a sink is a must.
