Can anyone tell me why anyone would need 96W on a 10 gallon aquarium ? I can understand for salt but this is designed for freshwater.

what would this be suitable for?

I found this looking for a new light for a 10 gallon as I want to grow a nice carpeting plant ( riccia ?  Drawf Hairgrass )

Thanks

I have riccia for carpeting plant. So far I don't think I need that much light. I use 2x23W Phillip daylight deluxe spiral bulb in my 25 gal. I just set it up, so time will tell.
75 gal - Mosquito rasbora, Bushynose pleco, RCS
9 gal - CRS
40 gal - Longfin Albino Bushynose pleco, RCS

I would use it on my 10... I wouldn't pay for one but I'd use it.

Once you get past 4 watts per gallon... its no harder keeping high light going algae free.  The more light over the tank, the better the growth.  Stem plants aren't as leggy... carpeting plants stay low.... and don't forget the WPG rule doesn't apply to 10 gallon tanks

Bigdaddy: Thank you.  It just seems like way to much light... I will definatly have to think about purchesing this light.  Will have to wait till next wednesday so i get my double VIP points @ big als online haha.

Why do you say you wouldn't pay for it though, is there a better light out there  that you would recommend ?

Thanks !

BigDaddy

Because I can buy a dual ballast for 55 W CF bulbs for about $60 and two 36W bulbs for $15 each.  I'd be overdriving the 36 watt bulbs and getting as good or better light at half the price.

And be aware that unless your CO2 isn't PERFECT, you are going to have major algae problems.

Thanks for the Tips BD;

I never thought about CO2, I was planning on just using the hagen natural grow co2 but maybe should look into pressurized.... will do that before i invest in the light.
