Sand substrate

Can anyone advice me on which sand I can use for substrate for a planted tank?
1) I bought a bag of all purpose flame dried sand, is it okay to use?
SEcondly I bought home some sand from North Carolina a couple of years ago, it's ocean sand, it would look really nice, it's a great color and texture and I would love to use it.

You could definitely use the ocean sand, just clean it well in a bucket first, however most people use either pool filter sand that you can find at Mermaid Pools on Merivale Rd. for example or Play Sand which is generally found at Home Deopt, Rona etc...

Sounds like you have some nice sand there.

I would stay far far far away from the Playsand, if I were you.

Thank you very much, I love that sand it's very soft, and has a really cool colour it should look great with the plants I got on Monday night. All I need are some Crypts and Duckweed.

SP has millions of duckweed lol..tho I am sure you can get some for free from a member

I got my duckweed at the SP in the haven. It continues to grow nicely and was cheap. Once a week I scoop 2 fishnets of it out of the main tank, if you were closer I'd gladly give you some.

no lynn I don't know anyone who has it, but anyone who does I am sure would have no problem giving some up, as it would be replaced within hours lol..that stuff grows like nobodys business!!
