Hi, the rio pump quit on my skimmer.  Any suggestions as to what pump I should replace it with?
Thanks,
Julie

Don't know what brand of skimmer you're using Julie but I would simply replace it with one with the same GPH rating.  Is it a HOB or in a sump?

Julie

It's a CPR Bakpak HOB with Rio 800 pump.
From what I've read on the net, the rios have a bad rep.

Try this pdf file  http://www.cpraquatic.com/pdf/bakpak.pdf   it say's the bak pak 2 uses maxijet 1200. Unless you have an older version of the CPR Bak Pak that uses the rio pump.
Yes Rio pumps are not that good if you research the net on skimmers using Rio pumps, lot failure rates!
Try switching to a maxijet 1200 and see if it fits on the existing connection or might have to rig something up!

I would try an mj. it should be pretty easy to rig up and they are just great power heads.

I've heard the same thing Julie but I have an older RIO that's works very well.  RIO has also introduced the new SEIO pumps that are the rage in the SW community.

Julie

I have 2 mj 600's which seem to work quite well.
How exactly would I rig up a 1200 to the skimmer?

Just use a regular 1200mj from the lfs and make sure the output nozzle fits in your intake hose, if not might have to find a reducer or expander fitting. Use the strainer supply in the kit for the intake.

I have the output nozzle of the MJ1200 in the intake of the cpr bakpak.  However I can't figure out how the venturi portion will fit in the strainer supply?  In the directions for the bakpak2 they refer to a venturi adapter.
Thanks,
