Just a freak thing or what?

Ok, I got home today and found 2 of my little guys dried out on the floor. One was under the tank stand and the other was about four feet away. It happend once before. I had a catfish of some sort leap out when the water got too hot for him. I checked the temp and it was 74 and there was no direct sunlight on it today.
I do have a lid on the tank but I am still looking for one that fits the whole thing. I have saran warp covering the back 3 inches thats still open. The one I found 4 feet away had to have slamed into the little door thingy on the front. Lots of power for a 2mo old guppy.
Do my fish really hate me so much that they just commit suicide??? I guess I'll have to take their shoelaces away lol.

could something be chasing them? Maybe they where trying to get away.

Also - i have heard of two fish jumping out at once - but there was a loud noise in the house at the time and it shocked them.

Just ideas...

or banging the glass, I see kids all the time tapping the glass to watch the tetras jump out...*groan* and they do .. everytime

I can't really see some loud noise just out of the blue. It happend while I was out and I live by myself. About the only loud noises I get around here are the jets as they take off.
I've had the same fish for about 9 months except for the 3 remaining guppies (all about 2mo old). I've never seen them chase eachother like that. They always swim around in one or 2 groups real friendly like.
I have been waiting for them to go as I want more agressive types but I never wanted or expected some to die like that.
