Does anyone have that I can borrow, or can recommend containers to transport 5 large Red Pacu's (largest is 16" smallest 12")

Oh buy the way if you want them (free) let me know, all I ask is you come and take them (fish them out) and assume the necessary shower to remove and transport.

dpatte

wow great fish. I have styro boxes if you need them - when do you need them?

dpatte

large covered pails might be neessary for that size though

Marc

The only time I've ever transported fish that size they were gutted and on ice in a cooler.

I'm thinking large coolers may be your best bet too.  Fill the cooler with tank water, put in one maybe two fish per cooler, close the lid and move the cooler.

Marc

I thought about pails because that's what I usually use to move my fish but I'm not sure about putting 12" to 16" fish in a pail.

Apparently where the come from the are caught for food!!!  I had them separated in 3 80 gallon tanks but ....... My son has them in a 300 gallon tank now and the managed to (almost) chew through  the wiring of the PJ3000 pump and a powerhead 800.

He wants to keep them but had to repair the pump's wiring at a cost. Found a place south of Bank some reptile farm??? 822-8924 that said they would take them. Has anyone herd Of this place???

Oh if you want then for dinner let me know :)

HI, the place you're refering to is on Bank street south (the name escapes me now) and I took the kids there a couple of weeks ago.  They have several tanks but I didn't see any that would be suitable for a large Pacu.  Their tanks were in pretty bad shape as well.

When I had some fish almost this size, I gave them to the Montreal aquarium (which is now closed but whose livestock is now at the Montreal biodome). But I can tell you that if I had a 500 gallon tank to spare (36x36x96) I'd take your pacus in an instant :)

Ray's Reptile Zoo is the name of the place on Bank Street.

Picnic coolers make good containers for fish that size. You'll probably need  3 of them.
-thankful for a tankfull-

I think the donation to the Biodome is your best bet

I was at wal-mart the other day trying to figure out the logistic of moving my 125 gallons and all my cichlids.  I was looking at the various containers to figure out how I was going to transport over 50 gallons of water when an employee came around and suggested a 35 gallon garbage bin they have with wheels.

That might be suitable to move your pacu's.  Then again, the problem is loading the garbage bin into a vehicle.

just out of curiosity, how much would a new 500 gallon (3ft x 3ft x 8 ft) tank cost.  Anyone have a lead on custom tank manufacturers?

David, NAFB (North American Fish Breeders) on Kennedy Rd Scarborough does custom tanks for VERY reasonable. 125g was $200 and a 72x24x18 is about $300, from what I can gather from the posts over at www.pnaquaria.ca (Toronto-based BB)

Art,

The reason why I want to move the water is because my aquarium is a source of omen for me.  When something is admidst in my aquarium, I look for the sky to fall down.  And since I am opening up my own law office in september, I do not want to take the chance getting bad karma by doing a complete water change.
