Hi there everybody. I have been looking around at some fish lately and my eyes have caught the site of calvus cichlids. I was just wondering, through everyones expeience, are these generally an easy fish to keep? Tell me all you know (ie diet, tank size, compatibility etc...) I have a 10g, a 15g, and a 50g. Im thinking about getting a 25g, would that be a suitable size enclosure for a few? If you have pictures of your setups, please dont be shy, attach some pics. All feedback appreciated!

These articles might help:

I feed my yellow calvus NLS (grow and Cichlid formula)
Mine were about 1.25" when I got them and they could not eat the cichlid formula
BBS or BS are good and I also feed mine Mysis.  In the wild they eat insects and such. Mine also eat snails.

I got mine from SteveOOO at about 1.25" May-June this year. Here is a pick that shows the growth they have had. The biggest front is 4.5" in the pic.

I have 3 males and 1 female in a 55g community Tang tank. I grew them from small juvies. They take a long time to grow but are very beautiful fish. I have 2 types of Julies pairs, a leulipi pair, a daffodile pair, a trio of cyprichromis (had more but they died when I had a filter shut down - very delicate fish) and a few small bushynose plecos in with them. At the moment the daffodiles have a brood so they are ruling one half of the tank but no major fiights. The calvus are picking off the babies slowly being carnivours; I call it population control.

population control lol! Im gonna do them in either my 50g or wait untill my 120g is open and my angel colony moves there and do them in the 55g. I hear adults arent cheap, and can be hard to find, does anyone have any or know anyone that has any?

I'm keeping an eye on this thread.
I'm getting a 75 from my dad and was considering this as a population for it!

Last week I got my GOLD HEAD COMPRESSICEPS and my ALTOLAMPROLOGUS COMPRESSICEPS "DWARF SAMBU" (Shelldweler) to breed for the first time, while I'm still waiting on my favorite, the white calvus.

Congradulations!!!!  Let use know how things go. I here calvus and comp fry are more fragile then other fry

The 1.25 inch fish I got from steveOOO were about 10-11 months old at the time so they are very slow growers.

I was not prepared for all that breeding, I also found the N. trancriptus on the same night. The Golden Face had no yolk and were looking for food, I had to restart a microworm culture (oops forgot I could have given them vinegar eels... daahh!) so I'm down to four. Meanwhile the other two are starting to eat and none are lost yet.
BTW the Sambu Dwarf, in a 15 gal tank, laied it's eggs in a piece of tubing for plumbing also ment for the breeding of the BN also in this tank.

Now we know why the breeders are asking a bit more for certain fish.

Like I said I did not fair too well with the Golden Face (I just upload a pic of the breeders in my gallery). As a consolation, I did not loose any of the A. compressicep Dwarf Sambu (Shell dweller) as you can see from this picture.

BTW sorry about the poor quality, I had to shoot without seeing them as they are in a black PVC/ABS tubing.
