Not to take anything away from this site but all you cichlid lovers should check out www.cichlid-forum.com, video section, very informative. ;)
Like PFG says "I miss this place and all the people associated with it."

darkdep

I doubt there is a cichlid lover on here who doesn't already visit that site :)

Darkdep is probably very correct in his assumption, and don't feel bad about looking in other places for information. In fact, it is often a good idea to cross reference what the rest of the world has to say on subjects, as there is always someone somewhere that knows way more than most of us do, but you never heard that from me. ;)

I have also used this site fairly often.  Lots of good info and ncie pics.

I've never even had a cichlid in my tanks (yet) and I even check out the website. I agree.... there are some very nice pics.

Well now, there is a confession that by the very nature of its disclosure, merits some further encouragement to atempt to keep even the lowliest of dwarves just so you can become aware as to why we are all so bitten. And we are bitten, Cichlids have to be one of the most diverse and fascinating freshwater fish. Most especially with respect to the various courting and spawning habits, they are also amazingy great parents that care for their young . Strange, eerie, definitely bossy, but always industrious cichlids. go ahead and try them, you'll never look back once you're bitten.

I am well aware of the admiration that many have shown on this website for the freshwater fish that they refer to as the "cichlid". I've been checking them out for some time now,and had originally planned to start my new sixty gallon tank (not so new anymore) as a cichlid tank. Plans changed once I realized, that my water parameters were not suitable. I have a large amount of drift wood in the tank.I find it estetichally pleasing and therefore could not house them due to the low ph level. I realize that there are a few cichlids that do well in such conditions, I was just in way too much of a hurry to get some livestock in the tank that I stocked it with gouramis and danios. I really like the gouramis. They have provided me with hours of entertainment just watching them. The wife sometimes gets jealous of all the time I spend watching them swim around. BUt now I have a twenty gallon tank that has seen the last goldfish tragically die. Which means I can get get some small cave dwellers or something. Anyways that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Cave dwellers are certainly nice fish, and the water parameters you mentioned before are suitable for as many cichlids as they are not suitable. Just to let you know, there are a vast array of softwater low pH dwarf cichlids, and many are truly colourful, doubly so in their personality. Have fun with the latest setup, and always have your wife believe she is more important and that the fish are somehow her idea. ;)

I'm on www.cichlidforum.com almost every day.  Really the best site of its kind in my opinion.  Just cant wait for more episodes of cichlid TV.  Most recent episode they actually took over a huge motel for a cichlid convention and turned it into a cichlid mall.
Ad Koning was even there giving speeches.  If only we had conventions like that around here.   ;D

Another site that has great pics and interesting videos is this one http://www.aquamojo.com/  It's not exactly a cichild only site but is fun none the less.  His basement pond is really cool.
