Can someone please tell me what type of cichlid this is and where it is from?

I know it's not an African cichlid but was given no information other than that.

Thanks,
John

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

I was going to say rainbow, but you found it, good spotting, do you actually have them?

johnbabin

LOL....They were "orphan drop offs"!

I have 12 fry in a 20 gallon long right now by themselves.

After doing some reading they seem like they may be a pretty nice fish, not sure if I'll get another set up and keep them or post them to see if anyone wants them.

I'll see how it goes.....lol

Thanks,
John

To me they look to like young C. nicaraguensis (males). The females had a spot on the side, the males a line. Or maybe it was all the juvies had the spot. The metallic blue on the head is only on breeding mature fish.
I used to breed them about 10 years ago.  James Ho bought some off me and was also breeding them locally for several years.  So maybe he could pipe in if they look like Nicks to him. I don't know if he still has any, but I've seen young ones around from time to time in BA's. The breeding adults are possibly the most beautiful golden fish I've ever kept. The picture below doesn't quite look right, and the first name is new, but its best I could find on a quick google for a picture.
