hello members of ovas im not really into fish but since i will soon be living with fish fanatics i figure: if u cant beat em join em!!   :)
so i'm looking into first learning about fish and go from there.
i have had white cloud minoes b4 but that was an unsuccessful trial (i had 2 give them 2 my brother).
i am most interested in angels and as i am 2 lazy 2 go to the library and read a book i am looking to you guys for your thoughts and advice!!

thanx guys

Evan

hate to be the one to bring bad news but in my opinion you will have to do some reading.  There are some good articles for starting on the OVAS home page.

Well ,for starters what sort of size tank you looking to get?
how much you want to spend?
what kind of fish besides angels you want?
want plants? ornaments? gravel? and last but not Least
filtration and lights.
as you can see....it all adds up........luckily here at the
club there is lots of items for sale...so, I think you might want to
read just a bit about setting a new aquarium.
good luck  8)

You have two choices...

Option 1:

Buy it all and pay for someone to properly maintain it all for you (lest you kill off everything you buy from inexperience).  You loose all the joy of having a tank, but you'll have something pretty to look at.

Option 2:

READ.  For the love of pete... with all the information that's on the internet about fishkeeping... is a couple of hours of reserach really going to kill you?

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you are too lazy to read some information about the fish you want to keep, then you will be too lazy to perform the routine maintenance on your tank that is required to keep your fish happy and healthy.

hello everyone first: thank-you for ur contributions!!
ok, yellowtang to andwer your questions:
a fair size tank (20-25 gal) since it'd be just a breeding tank...but i do no that if i want 2 breed angels theni will deffinetly need a bigger tank than that!
other kinds of fish i want:guppy's prolly cuz my step brother  (who also has an account with ovas)has afew so i can get them from him 4 free and i might go to the ovas auction or wutever it is and see wut other kinds of fish i might like.
plants, ornaments, filtration and lights: cheap (from walmart lol).
and as 4 gravel i have some already.

and bigdaddy:i'll get so much help from my step family (the fish fanatics) and ovas so all together i'll get more info from all that than on the net and it'll also be easier to understand!!

dandaman

Well, i do agree that reading is a good thing if you have not keped tanks before.
I think angels also do require a good size tank(40g) to get them to a good size for breeding
80- 5 Tropheus Brichardi Malagarasi
55- Planted Communnity
35- Discus/Angel Community
10- Breeding tank

Hello pnmdsz6,

Bettas make excellent pets, and are great starter fish.  They can be kept alone in bowls as small as one gallon, and do not require filtration as they can take oxygen right from the air.  They are pretty hardy, but in an un-filtered, one gallon bowl they would still require a 100% water change about every 4 days, no longer than a week.  They are most active in heated (to 75-78F), lightly filtered tanks between 1 and 5 gallons.

They are difficult to breed, as a close eye must be kept on the male and female during spawning.  Adults require proper conditioning, and fry must be fed the proper foods as they grow.  Spawns can be as big as 200 fish, and then these fish must go in their own individual jars... for more on breeding, see the betta section at www.fishforums.net.

Bettas cost about $5 at most pet stores.

That's it, in a nutshell!

are betta the kind of animal that needs to stay with their mother for awhile, or are they independant from birth?
could i have an xtra tank, sortof to keep ready for the baby's?

RedFish

Here is a very informative thread on breeding bettas.  It is not very easy.
