just wondering but many sites i have read say MTS eat algae

"One reason the Malaysian Trumpet Snail is so popular is that it likes to eat algae, both in the wild and in captivity. Hobbyists appreciate this as it helps to maintain a clean aquarium"

When I set up my planted tank some of the plants I got were pretty badly taken by hair algae which they saved a banana plant by eating it all. Overall though they are not effective for even minor algae buildups, Otocats are pretty good, and a blade for the front window :P
