I have a chuck of amethyst I picked up at a mine outside Thunderbay years ago can I put it in my aquarium?

One day when I am super rich I am going to have an aquarium that has diamonds as a substrate  ;)

PaleoFishGirl

Amethyst is just pretty quartz (SiO2).  It won't affect your water parameters or anything.

washefuzzy

Yeah! It's gonna look so pretty. :)Besides getting out of the way.

Don't forget to post a picture.

Better yet, you could put it in my tank. :)

The only thing I would be concerned about
when using crystals of any kind is the sharp edges.
would this not present a problem to some fish?

Mostly to species like loaches which don't have scales.  Most bottom dwellers like cories should be find.

Nerine

you could always polish them to round off edges
