Very excited day.  I've had a bamboo shark egg in the tank for the last three months, and it's finally hatching!  Last night the outer casing had a hole, through which you could see the shark turning.  Hopefully it'll be out today.  So excited, had to share,

Jim.

We really, really need pics !!!!!!!! :)

Steve_2

Yeah, I wanna see pics!

I'd also take pics of my seahorse babies that were born this morning, but I'm a horrible photographer and my camera won't focus on such small babies.

Good luck with the shark. What kind of set up are you going to keep him in?

This is really interesting moment. These eggs are hatching from 3 to 6 months, so this does not happen often in home tanks...
I also wanted to have one but afraid it will grow to its 3 feet length fast. Let us know later how it is growing. Also read the info that the shark can be a victim of harassment by it's tankmates like large angelfish, puffers, triggers... So, if you have any - keep an eye.

How big of a tank do yo have for it when it is full grown?

assiegordon

Finally out last night.  Here is some pictures.  Sorry for the dirty glass.

To answer some questions:

My tank is a 120 gallon long.  It's not big enough for a full grown bamboo (reaches between 1' to 4' length).  I got the egg as a project for me and the kids (everyweek we would hold the egg up to the light and note the changes in the embrio).  The shark will not stay in my tank forever, maybe a year or so.  I've made arrangements to find it a more suitable, perminant home when it gets bigger.

Jim.

Ahhh thought you might be getting some sort of massing 600g+ tank or something lol.

Tyler.L

how big is it? like a foot long or what?

jimskoi

Good for you.
Have you feed hime yet?
Mine eat frozen silver sides, squid and shrimp(not the rings).
I have 5 egss right now and they are all in different stages of development. Its very neat to see each week the changes in them.I also have a banded that is going to hatch anytime soon.
Its very exciting to actually watch them come out.
He wont get as big as you think.Probally around 26".You will be able to train him to eat right out of your hand.I have 4 right now that I have trained.
Its true about angels and triggers.Mostly the triggers.Never had problems with puffers or anything else.

Well good luck and i hope you get years of enjoyment of of him.

How big are the tanks you have them in Jim?

jimskoi

I have a 400 gal but the sharks and eggs are in a tank that I made.
Its 48x36x12" Gives them lots of room to move around.I made a cave for them and they have lots of corals to move and hide around in.
