Just wanted to report one of my Female Mpimbwe Gibberosa has had her tube down since Tuesday night. Not bad since I have only had these since April 2007.

Anyone know any tricks to ensure a spawn? (Been doing the cold water Water changes and Feeding mysis pretty heavy to condition the fish for a spawn)

At this stage even getting a spawn does not garantee fry for those that are going to ask, as most often with you Fronts like mine they will not hold to term.

I plan on stripping at day 6-7 if she spawns and holds that long and use the strainer method to tumble the eggs.

Thanks,
    Bruce

Dim the lights and play some Barry White.  A nice white wine, always good with white fish, should be good.

The last shot is the best. As you can see she has a full mouth and secondly if you look in front of the anal fin you can see her tube is still down.

Now I hope she holds long enough!!! that I can strip her and tumble the eggs.

She started holding bween June 21st 2007 morning June 21, 2007 before 7:30pm when I got home. You should normally wait at least 5 days before striping, that way the eggs will have hatched and you have very fragile egg bound fry that can be tumbled till they are free swimming.

Ideally I would like to wait 14-21 days, but I am afriad she will not hold that long and since this is my first attempt at breeding these I would like to get some fry to ensure the high turn over rate of my tank is not resulting in limited fertilization of the eggs. Also I want to ensure any fry produced will not have mooning.

Well I stripped her about 10:30 June 26, 2007 and this is what I got (Day 5):

From the pic it is hard to see but some are little wigglers and other are almost there. Cute little heads and tails forming.

Unfortuatly I lost 2-3 eggs as a couple were crushed and another was white and did not look viable so I removed it.
