I just added an apple snail to my tank. Will it eat my plants?

BigDaddy

Apple snails are notorious plant eaters.  Any snail will eat dead or dying plant matter, but some species of apple snail will eat healthy plant matter.

I'd yank it if I were you.

Only certain kinds of apple snails eat plants.

(Forgive me if I get the spelling wrong!)

Pomacea Caninaliculata, commonly called Canas, are notorious plant eaters, while Pomacea Brigdesii, or Brigs, will eat some vegetable matter but prefer proteins, such as shrimp pellets.  To distinguish between the species, go to www.applesnail.net.  There is loads of great snail info on that site!  Good luck!
