I have a small 2.2G tank kicking around my house and I was thinking of setting it up as a betta tank. Do I need a filter or a heater for it (I think the Betta would be happier with a heater). What would be a good filter and heater? It also doesn't have a hood or light ( Yes all I have is a tank :) ) for it what should I use for a hood? (I was just thinking of using a desk lamp with a CF daylight bulb)

The filter is not needed as long as you are religious with your water changes.  As for heater it depends on if the room temp allows the water to stay at a constant 75+ degrees, if not I would get a small one.  As for light, your option is fine.

Thanks thats what I thought I will probably get a small heater. I don't have a hood for the tank and I can't find anyone who sells one for that size so I was thinking of just getting a piece of plexiglass and cutting it to fit.

Get the smallest heater you can find.  I bought one for a five gallon - thinking it would be okay on my 2.75 gallon tank - it heated it to 86 degrees on its lowest setting - the thermometer on the tank only said 78.  Thankfully I have the digital I can test with.

How small of a heater can you buy?

Your betta would love some plants too. - ones that can float in the water like elodea, najasgrass and javamoss.

I have a 2.75 gallon betta tank and I do a 100% change every 5-7 days.

Yes I am definitely going to add some plants to the tank.

I am probably going to hit home depot on Monday to see if I can get a small clear piece of plexiglass for a lid for the tank.

Here's a Mini Heater - http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp18534/si1382454/cl0/hydorminiheater75watt

Can also drop in a sponge filter and cheap air punp, try Walmart...

Bettas are cool but do like constant conditions...
