Posting Guidelines

[OVAS]

General Rules (for all forums):

:arrow:  You don't have to be a card-holding member of OVAS to post on this bulletin board.  Everyone is welcome.

:arrow:  "Want To Buy" and "For Sale" posts should be posted  in the Classified Ads forum only.  Others posts should be posted in the "General Discussions" forum only.

:arrow: No obscene, vulgar, rude,  or otherwise inappropriate language or topics will be tolerated.

:arrow: If in a thread there evolves a discussion which is unrelated to the first post in the thread then the thread will be split with the unrelated discussion moved into a new thread of its own.

:arrow: Regarding politics: it is permitted in one's signature to express a political opinion but political discussion is not permitted in the OVAS forums.  The political opinion must be expressed in one two lines and must be expressed in a polite and respectful fashion.

Classified Ads Rules:

:arrow: To make it easier for people viewing the Classified Ads prefix your post's subject with FS: (For Sale), Free: or WTB: (Want To Buy).  Posts without FS:, Free: or WTB:  will be updated by the moderators to have it.  

Note:  FS or Trade: is also acceptable.

:arrow: It's to your advantage if your post's subject clearly indicates and what it is that your are selling or want to buy.

:arrow: All "For Sale" posts must include a reasonable asking price. '$99 or best offer' type posts are also permitted as long as a reasonable ASKING price is provided. All posts without a reasonable asking price may be deleted at the moderator's discretion.

:arrow: Auctions are not permitted on this board - if you wish to sell your items using an auction format we recommend that you offer the items at our OVAS meeting mini-auctions or at our annual giant auction.

:arrow: After you sell your item or have found what you are looking for:
- if no one has replied to your post please delete your post.
- if someone has replied you won't  be able to delete the whole thread that your post is in so instead just add the word "SOLD" or "FOUND" in the subject and one of the moderators will delete the post

:arrow: If you wish to comment that the asking price for an item is too high do not do it in the classified ad, contact the vendor by PM or email.  If you wish to start a discussion about how much a used -insert item name here- would or should sell for please do it in the General Discussions forum.

:arrow: Posts for which there hasn't been a new reply in 30 days will be automatically deleted by the system.


Other announcements:

:arrow: The Bulletin Board is setup so that you can be notified by email of all posts (new posts and replies).  The text of the post is included in the email.  To reply to the post you still need to go to the Bulletin Board.  You will not be notified when a post is edited.

To turn on this option, go to your profile and click "Yes" next to "Notify me of ALL posts to forums", then save your profile. The link to your bulletin board profile is at the top of the page while you are viewing the bulletin board, just under the big red "Ottawa Valley Aquarium Society" title.  Note, you will receive 20 to 200 emails per day depending on how busy the bulletin board is.

:arrow: Unless otherwise stated all opinions expressed in OVAS forum posts are the personal opinions of the individual posting.  Similarly unless otherwise stated opinions expressed by members of the OVAS executive are the personal opinions of the individual posting and do not necessarily represent the views of the OVAS Executive as a whole.  Please consult the fine print at the bottom of  each forum page for all the details.
