Does Anyone Know of anyone or anywhere where there is Marine work being done in orleans? People who are studying marine or coral reef. Most likely in a lab, since there is no ocean close by :D

Thanks.

You will probably find a stripper in Antarctica before finding a marine biologist in Orleans. Lol

redbelly

Montreal would probably be your closes bet.

Cheebs

Unless they're dropping by for a visit,  I don't think there are any around here :P

kennyman

The guy who runs Marinescape studied Marine Biology and did some time working in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef.

Don't forget that Canada has a temperate and arctic climate so most any research at Canadian Universities should be to dealing with Coldwater Marine Ecology.

The best place in Canada for marine biology is likely the west coast.  Some very nice and varied underwater environments.  As others have said, around here, not likely.

There are a few marine biologists in Ottawa. However, I do not beleive there is any marine work, or labs anywhere near here.

My son did his co-op at Big Al's Kanata, then they hired him.

Ottawa U has some researchers studying fish. Its not marine but still good place to look for a local co-op or volenteer job. http://www.compphys.uottawa.ca/index.php?/Umbrella/Aquatics/
I'd suggest contacting one of the profs and asking them about the co-op program.

Send an e-mail of the Freshwater Institute in Winnipeg and ask them the question.

Not too many job openings in invert zoology or marine biology when I graduated but FWI building is where I worked for a while after graduating with my Science degree many moons ago.  They may be able to point you to somewhere closer in Ontario or Quebec.  Also consider approaching the Provincial folks about helping out at a fish hatchery.  There are a number of them in Ontario and Quebec.

Many studies of benthic invertebrates are under way all the time since these creatures are easier to collect and study with respect to environmental health of a particular waterway.  Similar studies with respect to impact off shore oil wells and more recently the environmental impact of off-shore wind farms. Counting amphipods and polychaete populations for a living can be fun.

Have fun.
