Having a problem with"growing" diffrent types of algae. the only type that seems to do well is green hair and red coraline. I have tried everyting there is, nothing seems to last very long? I just want to have a healthy "patch" of algae growth for my inverts and fish

Do i need to be doing something diffrent? i have good flow 2 t-5 lights (20 gallon)...
I havent checked my levels in a while but could any of that bother it?

Any ideas would help..
thanks.

It really depends on what kind of algae you want...

-A lot of nuisance algae (Which - CAN look good in your tank in moderation) require excess levels of nutrients in the water. If you're always running chemical filtration, or if your skimmer is rated for a larger system, there might not be enough stuff in the water to grow other kinds of algae.

-If you have a very large cleanup crew, maybe try moving some to your sump, to allow some new stuff to grow in your display

-Consider adding a new piece of live rock with some new pieces of algae on it that may not even exist in your system

-Having good flow all around your tank is a good way to DISCOURAGE algae growth in my experience. As soon as I allow a "dead spot" to occur in my tanks, it's usually the first place for a colourful bloom of some kind of algae to settle. (This can be beneficial. I just had a chat with Snigger the other day about how when I feed, all of the crabs in the tank know to go directly to this "dead spot" because that's where the food settles)

Hope that gives you some ideas

Damn!  That's pretty smart for animals with brains the size of a pin head!
