Has anyone ever ordered plants over the internet?

From this company: http://www.aquariumplants.com/

Not sure if they will send to Canada but possibly this company: http://www.tropica.com/default.asp

If anyone has what was your success rate?

When does OVAS usually have their plants exchange/sale?

Any preferences to good stores to buy plants in Ottawa?

Would a day trip to Montreal be worth it?  Any good stores there that sell and have a good selection of plants?

as a relative newbie with (accidental) successes that are largely mysterious, I look forward to responses to this thread!

They have a page dedicated to Canadian shipping, http://www.aquariumplants.com/articles.asp?id=129

I may be ordering from them in the near future so I'll let you know.

With fronds like these, who needs anemones?

Tropica only sells to dealers. There is a dealer from Edmonton that sells & ships Tropica plants someone could likely post the connection. Have heard mixed reviews on http://www.aquariumplants.com/ At each of our monthly meetings there is a mini auction for the last half. There are a lot of plants available usually. Also in March is the OVAS Giant Auction and there are a ton of plants common and rare. You should come out to the meetings to check out the presentations & auctions.

What Plants are you looking for?

You will probably get them here, better health, better size, better price.

I definitely will come to the september meeting to see what is available plus to meet a few of the people that have shared their experiences and helped me out.  By then I will have settled other issues and should have specific ones I will be looking for.  I have been talking to Zima and will get some from him once the tank is ready.

I looked on http://www.tropica.com/default.asp site on their dealer page and Super Pet Barrhaven, 3161 Greenbank Rd. is listed as one of their dealers.  Just called them and they have been bought out and are now only carrying a limited selection.

I also sent an email to Tropica to see if you can order from them.  mentioned the possibility of a group order.  Night there so will find out tomorrow hopefully.

Martin please do let me know how you made out.  From what I understand they only ship once monthly.

For the most part the plants at the BA in Montreal and at Nature pet center are very nice, better then those in Ottawa IMO.

The plants at La Niche are as nice as any I've seen in Montreal or Toronto. Clean tanks, fair prices, interesting selection, and OVAS discount.

Still, though, most of my plants have come from auctions or classified ads here.

I ordered from aquariumplants.com when I lived in North Carolina (3yrs ago) and had a very poor experience with them.  They sent less than half of my order and the majority of the plants I received were close to death.  They charged me for all the plants I ordered, even though I did not receive the majority of them.  After multiple unanswered phone calls and emails, I got really frustrated and filed a complaint with the better business bureau.  Three months later, they finally contacted me (to resolve the BBB complaint), refused to refund my money for the missing plants and instead, shipped out a new plant order with almost all the missing plants (except the rare anubius that I paid lots of money for).
Needless to say, lesson learned.  I will never order from them again.

Good to lnow about aquariumplants.com  I think I will leave that one alone.  Since the first post I have read more then a few stories similar to yours.

Local looks good.  If I get to Montreal I may try and drop into the suggested places about.

Still playing with the new CO2 setup.

I ordered a few plants on Ebay... for the most part they were okay all were alive when they arrived. I was disapointed with the size of the plants I thought I was getting a big bunch and all that came were just small plants... so I learned to ask for detailed descriptions of my order... I think if you look around you can get what you want local and you will save a lot on shipping and it would be faster as well
