How many people have an aquarium in their kitchen?

Are there any safety hazards or pit-falls that you can suggest avoiding?

I do! No special caution is being excercised at all, just moved it away from the stove.

I had a grow out tank in the kitchen.  Did it mostly because it was a reminder every day when I grabbed my coffee to take care of the fry.

i kept my 20g there for a week or so while i moved other stuff around. The only issue I had was that it took up counter space and outlets.

I have a 20 gallon on the island in the kitchen too.  I worry about it being accidentally bumped or damaged by my husband for some reason.  He does the cooking ;)  I expect its completely safe.

Also be careful about spraying disinfectants etc.   I think this tank will be moved downstairs in the summer.  The kitchen gets crazy hot and I only have AC in the bedroom.

at my grandma's we've had a few tanks in the kitchen...I think there were a few bowls, and for sure a 20 gallon (it was a 10 but had to be upgraded ;) ) and at my house I've had a 30 g in the kitchen! :)
The only thing was...in my tank was african cichlids...and every time we were eating, they would all come to the side of the tank and stare!

Now that always freaks me out, with fish and animals in general. I just feel hypnotised by them!  ;D I imagine it is extra tough with african cichlids - now they can stare for a long time!

we have a five gallon in our kitchen, although it does take up valuable counter space and outlets, the enjoyment is worth it.

I've had fish tanks in the kitchen. The only issue that I can see is for someone who does alot of cooking with grease or oils, such as deep frying. This can volitize the oils that they can end up in the fish tank via air pumps. Barring that I don't see problems with it, although if the fish are the kind that frighten easy it could be trouble as the kitchen is a pretty high trafic area.

I tried but my wife wouldn't let me. >:(

We have a 100 g. diamond tank in the kitchen, the only downfall is I'm constantly getting an earfull for putting stuff (keys, etc..) on top of the tank. I'm bad like that though, the top of our fridge is full of stuff that I've set there with plans of moving it elsewhere later, but that never happens!

i got a 10 gallon in the kitchen with two small salvinis. No problems as of yet, however the table is big enough for my cats to jump on and they like to tease the fish. The salvinis will be in the 55gal in a week and in go the shrimp! I would only worry about the heat from cooking in the summer...
