hey folks, i bought a anubias bartaei plant and i think it is the nana species. anyhoo i got it last week, but the problem i am having is that. it is withering away, like it is turning transparent. almost looks mushy, got few holes here n there.

lighting i just got 18,000k power glo T8 @ 24''. i only dose flourish comprehensive once a week, say about half a cap. any suggestions as to why it showing signs of problem.

You have a small tank so SeaChem Excel will not be to expensive to dose with it helps with uptake of all ferts. Look this over: http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/deficiencies.htm

Giving the fact you just bought this plant a week ago can you tell us if the plant was healthy , i `m a bit hesitant to pin the blame on your tank , since the plant is a robust slow type of plant & the limited time it`s been in your system, the symptom you are describing is leading me to believe the plant is suffering from a severe nutrient deficiency & probably been doing so for sometime .
Just my guess

How do you have it growing, they don't like to have their stalks buried in the substrate. They will tolerate some, but are prone to rot if grown this way.
They do really well tied to logs and other decorations.

At the time of of purchase the plant was buried slightly in the substrate, as most LFS stores do. But it was far more healthier then another other plants, that was being sold in the store. Lush green no browness on the plants, or any signs of deficiency. Aside from one or two leaves just having a small cut, out the other 8 looked amazing.

But yeah the plant is tied to a rock, hence i am still confused as to why it is falling apart like that. Because i got other plants in my tank as well: hornwort, corkscrew val which i got recently, some type of amazon sword which i also recently, water wisteria which i have had for a while has some browness but it is growing tall, last bot not least java fern which i have had for queit some time.

I was going through the deficiencly list over the past two days, figured it has some to do with lack of nutrients. To my understand it seems like a potassium defiecieny, or it could be something else hence i wanted to ask first.

If anything i did add the anubias after my water change, but my water change was only 10%. After the water change i just added a half capful, of good flourish:comprehensive. I could pick up excel n see how that goes over the next week or so.

Just remembered i did wash the plant under tap water, just to clean off any bacteria or such or snail eggs before i put in my tank. But i have done it so to my other plants, never such occurance as this.

I got some pics here. Pardon the blurryness. My camera isnt good at close up, or i just dont know how to use this fancy toy yet.

It doesn't look all that bad: the plant looks very healthy to me. That a couple off leafes may not do so well might come from the move to your tank: maybe it got a little chilly on the way, or they got a little dent?
be aware of the green side

well i will play it by the weeks, and see how it goes. yeah over all the plant is healthy, just 3-4 old leaves are affected. nothing major affecting the new leaves. crossing my fingers at least  :)

I agree with fischkopp, your original post makes it sound a lot worst off  ;)

Hahaha........words can be a lil hard to explain with certain matter. Hence visual proof works alot better. lol. Thanks for the help. Poor plant.......hope it regains its mighty strenght n takes over my tank

Pictures speak a 1000 words the plant will do nicely just don't bury it tie it down not to tight as to damage the stem and/or root.

Yeah it doesn't look so bad, I usually get a few dying leaves after transport from any plant, just trim the bad ones off.

I'd wait to see if they are truly dead. Anubias grows slowly especially in a low light set-ups. If they are not turning brown or looking really bad I'd hold off sometimes they just need to uptake some ferts.

i was wondering about these plants. i know plants like these are slow growing, is there a way to help speed the process of their growth rate.

i mean i know for some plants, with high light + co2/ferts combined increases their growth rate like wild fire.

but what about for slow growing plants. any secret to them?

Hi Seb, lights & nutrients will accelerate the growth of any plant , but only in relation to the natural growth rate of the specific plant, in short you can give a turtle rich supplement but he will never outrun the hare  :)
