I don't use filter socks but I would suspect that you need to clean them now ;)

WOW,
Reminder: Must get some filter socks...

xiaan

Just don't forget to clean them every couple of days. I have some socks but almost never have them on too much work to clean them  ;)

Here is the start to the whole project, the inside structure to the stand. No 2x4's as they will always twist and warp, not good with glass and large amounts of $$$ on it.

What did you use a 4x4?

No, No 4x4's either

So the measurements of the wood you used is.................?

BTW, What did you use for bracing? I see no lapjoints, bracing or corner brackets. Did you use the exterior cladding to tie it together?
I just put a 75 gal stand together for lolina and otis. (see my gallery) Using your technique would have saved me a lot of wood. But then again, I prefer to err on the side of safety.

its not the measurements that matter its the quality of the wood that is important.

I agree, it's not the measurements that matter, it's how the wood is tied together into a structurally stable stand that will support, in this case. approximately 3/4 of a ton (1500 lbs)
Actually with that amount of water, substrate and rocks on an upstairs landing, I would care about the measurements of the wood and the way it was put together. ;)

If you use the right wood, glue, and building techniques you can build a stand that is more than strong enough to hold that weight plus more with way less bulk than stacking 2 by 4 together and bracing them so they don't twist and warp and end up with a way nicer end result as you see above. ;D

The way it is built and the products I use when building the structure and stand is more than strong enough to support an elephant, it is all inside the finish product which gives the bracing and all its strength. 12 yrs of custom cabinetry building are a great help in knowing what to do in the builds I do.
