Any pictures on your the build and any tips on wood and technique would be appreciated as I am going to do a stand for a 220g this summer.

that stand/tank setup looks like what one would get if you'd won the lotto and had someone make it with price as no object!

Looks like a nice hardwood for the structural frame. So, what wood is used?

How can we know how much is enough for a given weight over a given span, and at what safety margin?

If one wanted stand leveling capability, would a metal plate under the corners for a threated bolt foot be enough, or would you need a full span metal support around the bottom?

The way it is built and the products I use when building the structure and stand is more than strong enough to support an elephant, it is all inside the finish product which gives the bracing and all its strength. 12 yrs of custom cabinetry building are a great help in knowing what to do in the builds I do.

I kept reading this thread waiting for you to give up something...and what did I (and anyone else that asked several times) get for an answer? :-\ ........Nothing! >:(
So...thanks for nothing. :P Keep your "Trade secret" If I really wanna know (which I dont now) I guess I'll just ask my neighbor who was a cabnet maker for 50 years +. ::)

Obviously there are several of us who would like to get information about your build...equally as obvious is the fact that you do not want to share information.
An enlargement of your photo shows 2X4's while you stated at the start of the thread that 2X4's were not used.  Were you involved with the build at all?

End of my interest in this topic.

For all who want to Know the frame is not 2x4's it is solid hardwood.

veron

were did the pic of the frame go?? it was there yesterday? anyways, nice build.
but 2x4's will not twist/split if chossen right. thousands upon thousands build stands using 2x4's myself included for my 500g tank.
its over kill by I'm a rookie. look at all the stands/canopys at BIGALS no hardwood there.
upright plywood/screw/glue has a LOT of strength if done right.
this is a very nice setup by the way :)

Correct me if I'm wrong here....but....I do believe Hardwood can be cut or planed to 2X4 dimentions ::)

The point is not that hardwood can be planned into 2x4. The size of the wood has nothing to do with the structure, the quality of the wood is what I was getting at. When you use a quality product you don't have to use as many supports and braces (saves on the bulk and weight) and with the traditional spruce 2x4's which are supposed to be dry and are not so there for they tend to twist and warp much easier than a KILN DRIED piece of hardwood. Another thing with 2x4 spruce if you are using regular yellow or white wood glue and the wood being wet and the wood glue being water clean up what are the chances of the glue actually doing any good? using exterior wood glues that are meant for the weather and all wet conditions, (especially around an aquarium) and the us of quality wood will make a much stronger start to any project.

Would that be an Indian or African elephant?

who cares about his cabinet making skills maybe hes using very expensive wood who knows but doesnt matter dont need to come on this thread and start running wild and talking about stuff that most likely was done through pm's.

winston199

Don't even sweat it 5620. This won't be the last time an OVAS members gets angry at you. Just laugh it off and move on. I try not to take this place too serious anymore.

Keep the updates coming. I love reading build threads.

Here is an exellent cabinet build thread on RC that explains how to DIY.

Did some clean-up to this thread.

Everyone decides for themselves what they want to share and what not. But we should be happy with anything that is shared. :)
