Filter Maintenance

Hello Everybody!
I have an Eheim Pro II 2028 purchased on boxing day. It has been running since then. Fish are in there home for some time now and everything is great. I was wondering what some people do for maintenance. Do you replace some of the media/sponges every time you clean it? Do you just rinse? As well as how often do you do regular maintenance?
I cleaned up a bit 2 weeks ago and just rinsed everything.
