On behalf of OVAS I would like to thank everyone who came out this morning to our 1st (hopefully annual) garage sale / membership drive.  By all accounts it was a successful venture.  The club managed to sell 50 membership, almost half of them new members!

Thanks to all the people who made a commitment to be there to sell items, to all of those who showed up to browse, shop and socialize and to those who made a contribution to the well being of our club.

I thought it was a rousing success!! I was worried that it wouldn't happen for a while there but I'd say it all came together beautifully in the end. Thanks to all who helped put it together.

I echo garnpet`s sentiment, thank you all.
The response sure emphasises the reason why this organised club has been around in excess of 50 years , i think we might have just set the record for the most new first time members at a membership drive, thank you all, special thanks to our volunteer membership sales person of the day & to the sponsors of the free membership draws " Focus Financial Services" & "Ray's Marine Livestock & Aquatic Supplies" The winners will be published shortly.

What an excellent idea to combine the garage sale with the membership drive. My wife and I had a great time and I ended up buying the 47 gallon for my new/larger sump with some of the money I made.
110g saltwater/reef

I was walking down the street and a man was hammering on a roof top and he called me a Paranoid Little Weirdo. . . in morse code.

Vincenzo.

garage sale was great. good out come. for everyone who bought sw frags off me, i would not be worried if they dont open up right away. it Could take up to a week for them to open, depending on your systems. im glad the t-shirts where there, i had to get one. good time talking with people / meeting people. the wife had fun, and especially the daughter. i did not reach my goal of that, i did Not Sell Everything :D since i want the closet space, but im sure it'll go at one point.

one thing that was a bit of the let down, was the Lack of sw members. this was a great opportunity to buy / and / or / trade some frags, equipment, etc.. since it is a expensive hobby. though it was nice to see some new people to the hobby. and was glad to give what ever information they were looking for.

thanks to everyone who made it happen :D

i made my appearance lol.   it was BUSY! lol.  i don't know if i even got to see everything.   picked up a cheap pump.  i guess i was too late for any power heads that i was looking for.   if my 90g was further along i would have been interested in some frags.    i would look forward to going to this event every year.

wish i could tell who was who! lol.

my car broke down on the way out.   gas tank fell out of the bottom!   i had to strap it back up for the drive home :(

+1 on not knowing people.  Seems to me everyone should have name tags.  If necessary I would buy the tags.  Then, HELLO, MY NAME IS XXXXXX X would have some meaning.

My first ever OVAS function was a pleasure.  Let's do it again sometime !!!

We usually have name tags available at our monthly meetings, however at events such as the Giant Auction and the Garage Sale / Membership Drive today there are just too many people coming and going to make it easy to do.

Congrats on the free membership!

Thanks to the OVAS executive committee for organizing this event.
Brought my daughter Chloe and we bought:
- Bag of glass rocks, Gh/Kh test kit (thanks "Nerine" - Chloe loved the rocks)
- 6ft power bar (at a great price)
- 200 watt heater (thanks "Smalltownfan")

...and of course I renewed my membership, and even bought a T-Shirt for Chloe!

I echo the thought about having name tags with a x-ref to the Forum names - that where I "meet" most of the members.
Hope to see you all again soon - it was fun!

As Peter said, come to the meetings, we'll be doing name tags there!

Thanks to everyone who bought, sold, donated or just offered some friendly chat and a smiling face.  It was a good day.  :)

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

All RIGHT !!
Thanx for the free membership.

I guess I didn't read that post right yesterday as I was commenting on the name tags.

Thanx again, :D ;D

Our youngest son bought a bag of knick-naks (treasure chest, scuba diver dude, skeleton, etc) and has been begging since last night for me to get them cleaned up and into their tank. He is so proud of the "treasure" that he found.  ;D And both boys are proudly wearing their OVAS shirts, as am I. Any chance that we will be making any more shirts to sell?? Hubby is sad that there were none in his size.

WOW! :D The morning went by so fast! It was quite overwhelming to see so many people searching through the tables. Was good to see everyone after the long summer and to get to know a few more people. We had a great time! Thanks everyone to make this happening!

Unfortunately I couldn't make due to work, but glad to hear it went well. Thanks to Peter for the organization, and to anyone who came out and sold, bought, or just came to see. Look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
