Corner Tank - What size is it??

Greetings OVASers.  I have a problem I would like your help with.  I have a Miracle corner tank and metal stand that I will posting for sale, but in order to ask a reasonable price for it I of course need to determine the volume, which I think may be around 35gals.  The dimensions are 8"X24"X24"X8"X23" and 16" high (five sides).  Can anyone help out.  Thanks

To determine hex volumes, its area of the base times the height.  That gives you to total volume in cubic inches.

Then multiply by 0.00433 to convert cubic inches to gallons.

He says that it has 5 sides so I'm not sure if it would be considered a hex tank.  I assumed right angles at the corners and heres what I came up with.

I was trying to figure it out the hard way making a large triangle from the coner, and then spliting the trapozoid up into triangles and rectangles....

PS - If those are outside glass dimensions... its a pretty safe bet its a 30 gallon....

Good call BigDaddy.  I didn't think of that.

Just to be sure I suggest that Nelson drain the tank, get a 2gal bucket, and add water until its full.  It may take a couple of hours but we would know for sure.

Got a major brain cramp trying to figure this one out, so Quatro and BigDaddy, here's another challenge.  

21" high....31 1/2" back wall X 10 1/2" side X 7" angle X 21 1/4" front etc.

I'd draw it but can't do that either :?

Just lucky I guess  I'm told it's a 60 gal but seems kind of small for that volume.

Ok, here's how I figure (I'm going to embarrass myself, I know it):

First we start by figuring out the volume if the tank was a rectangular prism.  Assuming the front would be the same length as the back, each "missing" side of the triangle should be 5 1/8", or 5.125.  

We can confirm this by using the formula Sqrt(a^2 + b^2) = c.  By using these numbers we come out with 7 1/4"...close enough for me.

Volume of the rectangular prizm is a X b X c, or 44.7546.

Now we need to figure out the volume of the "missing" triangle prizms, and subtract it.

Volume should be area of base X height, so 1.1939 gallons x 2 sections = 2.3878 gallons from our previous total...

So, roughly 42 gallon.

If you would've told me which tank, I would've been able to tell you that.  We have the same one in at work, only different finish.

Thank you very much folks...I'll keep the formula just in case I pick up another weirdly shaped tank.  On the other hand I wouldn't want to spoil the healthy competition so I might not :wink:

Here's a site that I found that'll calculate tank volume automatically for you (well, for hex and rectangular tanks anyway).

They also have a neat DIY stand project that I'm thinking of trying out. It uses 4x4 for the frames which I really like. You just punch in the size of your tank and it prints up plans that'll fit. A really neat tool!
