drew I saw cichlids flash off rocks and driftwood in Lake Malawi and I doubt there is detectable nitrite or ammonia in that tank

but I agree flashing must be due to some environmental factor. it is hard for us to determine what that is.

it often takes up to one month before the nitrogen cycle is strong enough to consume the ammonia produced by the fish.

I Didn't say scratching was related to the high levels, I said it was normal, but that their being in the dumps and not moving much might be due to poor conditions
