I was at my cottage today and thought maby i can bring some of these plants from the lake home  :D . So i bagged a few and took them home! The plants are in a big plastic tool box with a sponge filter for now. I have never kept plants before and i've been in the hobby for only about 5 months. I'm just testing to see if they live for a month or so.

PS. I have no idea what kind of plants they are and i cant take pictures because my camera  is not working.

Just thought i'd like to share.

Im sure a more knowledgeable club member will soon advise you to disinfect these plants before introducing them to your fish tank...  as they are loaded with many parasites, possibly eggs also... who knows... I would advise you ask around for info on disinfecting plants.. John P...

20:1. 20 parts water to one part bleach. Thats what I used and dipped for 30 seconds.

i didnt bleach dip some plants i brought home and ended up with fry. It seems that the plants had fish eggs on it.

Personally, I wouldnt bleach the plants if they came from a clean lake you would swim in. I would put them in a quarantine tank inside then discard the water after a month to remove insect larvae..

two things about local plants...
- they wont survive in warm water tanks - the water must stay under 80F. UNder 70F is even better.
- they probably need bright light

Some of the nices local plants are red Myrophilliums
