Clown fish stomach bursting ?!?!?

I've been feeding more than usual lately ( my pinktail trigger is a pig and I feel he needs quite a bit) and I've noticed two white areas that look like cuts or bad scratches on the sides of my female clown ( who has a huge distended fat belly ). The fish seems very healthy and lays eggs biweekly if not even weekly. There is almost always a big pile of eggs.

Is it possible the clownfish is actually eating TOO much an I need to cut back on feeding ? It seems hard to believe that the belly tissue could actually tear. Looking for some advice here.

Hookup

are you feeding pepsi and menots?

On seriously.. no idea.

mikerobart

Afraid not ! Just feeding mysis, brine, pellets. Emerald entree, some cyclopeeze. Feed every day usually at least one frozen cube of something sometimes two. Doesn't seem too excessive to me with a trigger, pair of clowns, chromis, six line, yellow tang, and A royal gramma.

Hmmm I doubt it's from feeding, like us I imagine it would come out one end or the other before the actual stomach bursts. Could she be rubbing up against something, trying to host maybe?

mikerobart

Well she does host pretty aggressively in a torch coral. That could be it. Just looks pretty damaged

RoxyDog

How long has she had the huge belly and has she laid eggs since then?  Could she possibly be egg bound?

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

mikerobart

Not sure she has laid eggs since but there is a nice sized clutch of eggs currently on the usual spot near their torch. The tearing of the skin seems to be at the same place on both of her sides. I am thinking she is not egg bound because the current eggs are still there and well that would be a lot of egg laying!

Seeing how regularly she does lay eggs really makes me want to try to raise some but from what I've heard it's easier said than done. If it was a matter of throwing the eggs in a 10g tank full of rotifers I'd be all over that  ;D.

my pair of clowns have huge belly too. coz, recently, i got a yellow tang, he was skinny, so i feed a lot, flake, mysis, vege flake, couple times a day, then, i found my clowns are getting fatter, and not only clowns, but also my yellow tail blenny become a "pig" too, lol.

Do you know how their calorie intake? Maybe it's time for the Atkins diet?

mikerobart

These iphone pics aren't that great and don't show the extent of the damage. I am wondering if it's some sort of blockage or parasite. She is still eating like crazy... maybe this is actually not a good thing though. Can this sort itself out on it's own?

mikerobart

I should mention it's the same on each side and looks way worse in person than in pics.

Looks like bloat that my mollies would get when I delved in freshwater. It did not result in a happy ending. I really hope it works out better for you.

That doesn't look good. Has it been pooping?

If you can, check out this page on wetwebmedia:

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/clnfshdisfaq8.htm

If you check out that page and some of the other Clownfish Disease pages linked up top, and you search for the word "bloat", you can find some similar cases to yours and potential causes/solutions. Hope that helps!
