Anyone ever seen anything like this to light up tanks?

Any idea on the equivalent Wattage?  Fairly large initial cost.. but after that, free light.

Given that it will be in the ceiling... at least 9 feet above your tank... I'd guesstimate not very practical.  Putting the tank in front of a south facing window would probably have better (and cheaper) results.

Now... having never seen one installed, I can't say for sure....

It doesn't have to be flush in the ceiling... it could extend to the top of the tank.

Mike Paletta's book, Ultiimate Marine Aquariums, details a very successful set-up using this technology.  Come summertime, also a heck of a lot cooler than metal halides... No reason it wouldn't work equally well for FW planted tanks.
