i was wondering is there a way to use this hood so it doesn't boil your fish?

i have is set up with 1 lamp and raised 3" off top of tank for heat reduction lol..

thanks..

Yep.  Ditch the incandescent bulbs, and put in compact fluorescents.  Normal heat and much brighter.

do those twist lamps work? or do i need aquarium store lamps?

darkdep

God no!  The twisties work great!  Go to Home Depot and purchase the "Phillips Super Daylight" brand, they produce EXCELLENT white light which I personally use on two of my tanks.  You can get two-packs for $10 or less.

Agree, use them myself. They are fine - NOT 2700K as others that you vcan find in stores and have nice lux value.
