There are folks who have been running with this setup for years without any problems.

That's good enough for me.   ;D

Hey ramblinpony.  Aluminum does not oxydize green.  I used aluminum for my light rack, and since last Nov. there has been no oxydization.  Stays bright and shiny.

Most small fishing boats that are used in salt water do not oxydize at all.  Some pretty big boats, built in China, are now made of aluminum.

Yep, I realized afterwards that I must have been thinking copper or something, but if you research it you will find that all metals oxidize to some degree even though aluminum is one of the slowest. Just for my peace of mind and to take another variable out of the equation I am going to build my screen frame out of acrylic.  :)

Food for thought..
Oxidization is the beauty of aluminum.
That's what keeps it from corroding in the first place.
The surface of it oxidizes in a millisecond when exposed to air,
creating a microfilm of aluminum oxide on the surface.
As fast as you clean it, sand it or whatever, a new layer
forms instantly, protecting it from the elements.
Ever notice older aluminum say, outside, it looks blackish, dirty?
That's the oxide coating it forms itself.
I know, I know, who cares  :D

There is an automotive product called Shark Skin. You can coat the alloy with that and it will stay polished & shiney. It hardens inert. I am thinking of the screening and painting the aluminium framing black with Trimclad.
