As anyone local gone about this route to light their tanks?

I came across this idea from this site:

Anyone thought of trying it?

I'd love to run that on a frag tank, and/or as supplemental lighting...  My walls and roof do not allow for easy application of either...

If you do go that way, I'd spend quite a few hours helping install it...  Looks very cool!

cool idea but you better be sure you dont want to move your tank.  And they may need to be covered/removed when you move as the new home owner may nto want them.

I've seen these in use in homes and they do work well. I'm considering one for a dark area in my kitchen. Depending on the light available, they can be almost blinding if you look right into them so they would probably be a definite benefit for a light-hungry tank. The problem I see for tank lighting is the length of time they'd be useful. Wouldn't most people want their tanks to be lit at night when they're more likely to be home to enjoy them more than during the day? By the time winter rolled around, the unit would have done it's thing for the day by the time people got home from work. I guess if the cost vs benefit, and construction issues work for you, it would be great as supplemental lighting. Just for me, I don't see the gain for the pain.

A contractor friend of mine installs these in homes.  While it adds light to 'dark'ish' places during the day, they are hard to install (needs a membrane and good sealent + annual checkups).  The intensity depends on the day we have....and well, this is Ottawa - not sunny Florida.  Lastly, they come out at ceiling hight if you don't want a piece of aluminium tubing from ceiling to a foot about the tank (wife no want but OK with hubby - hmmm, which will win out?).

Nice home add-on but wouldn't do it for my tank.

Snow could also be an issue.
