Is it safe to put mosquito/fly screen in the tank ?  Like the ones we typically use on household windows.

The nylon stuff is fine. Nylon mesh is used to hold different media like carbon or gfo.

I was walking down the street and a man was hammering on a roof top and he called me a Paranoid Little Weirdo. . . in morse code.

I'm talking about the framed screens that replaces windows on your house, not the soft nets that are used to make hats and the like ...

No idea what are those made of, but they can easily be salvaged from scrap yards & construction sites (obviously needs to be properly cleaned)

Never used that but use the stuff from hobby shops for cross stiching. I sheet is like $0.89 and comes in green plus other colours. Not sure if the screen is treated with anything? I've also used hair nets.

Great tip !

Where can I find a good, cheap stainless steel mesh to put under the moss & covering plants (and sandwich under the soft net) ?

I wouldnt use anything metal, if you need a bit of screen and are going to be at the meeting this month I can just give you some, I replace screens all the time but have lots of new stuff I can take a section off.  It has no metal content and would work well for your application.

Let me know.

Low grade stainless steel does corode - rust. It wouldn't be the best idea a potential issue.

Allright so I'll keep my eyes peeled for plastic mesh then.

I would like to start growing a moss wall, among other things. Also need a way to anchor covering plants (maybe just a soft mesh over a piece of slate would work fine)

Most window/door screens made today are nylon and safe to use in the tank.
