I was changing the filter media in my Fluval 404 today and when I opened up the lid there were two White Clouds swimming inside the filter.

I guess these two fish somehow managed to jump into the top of the surface skimmer while the water level was a bit low and were sucked into the filter.  It has been a month since I last changed the media so perhaps they have been in there for awhile.  They don't look any worse for the experience!

Isn't that how artw breeds his Africans?

wow!  Amazing they lived!

i often have fry being suck into the filters (eheim 2028 pro II), and when I clean them after 8 to 12 months, they are still living, the reason I say that they had to fry when they got sucked in, is simply because it's the only possible way on my installations.

These were full grown fish... well as full grown as a White Cloud gets.

At SP in Barrhaven we had some loaches living in the sponge filter towers in some of the tanks. And most of these guys were larger species that grew to a good 4-5" in size... They could and would come out at times however.

I really think that is INCREDIBLE :!:  Can you imagine a fish surviving in a black, turbulant environment like a canister filter?  We go out of our way to provide our stock with the absolute best in water quality, the best food available and an environment they probably recognize, but if they must, they can survive in a disgusting filter

I would not say these words about filter - my cat will sell it's soul (if she has it) just for drinking from sump
I really thought about placing blind fish in the sump, as I don't have lights there...

yeah my fry probably had the time of his life in the Filstar
fresh food, 24x7,  (algae on the filter sponges), oxygenated water flow, warmth,  privacy, no predators around.
