Too many WPG?

Is it possible to have too much wpg in terms of lighting? I was looking at putting two 55w compact fluorescent bulbs over my 30 gallon tank. But that works out to 3.67 wpg. Too high? I have low light plants in there such as anubias, a sword, java moss, a crypt, java fern... Should I simply get a single 55w instead for 1.83 wpg?

Thanks.

Over 2wpg and you'll need C02. Get the 55 watt.

Actually... over 3 and you need CO2.... sometimes 2.5 depending on the height of the tank.

At 2 wpg, your in the low end of the "medium" range.  Plant growth isn't substantial enough to warrant more than atmospheric levels of CO2 (around 9ppm).

Answering your question, Mettle, if you are sticking to the plants you currently have listed... don't waste your money on the second bulb.  55 watts is more than enough for that setup.

Yeup - definitely sticking with the plants I have. I like them and feel the set-up looks good as is.
