Lionfish In The Gulf of Mexico

There have been quite a few of these articles popping up in the last few days. If you scroll down a bit there's a short video where they're trying to teach Grouper to eat them. A map showing where they've been found too. About the only way these fish can be there is from some idiot(s) releasing them. I'm heading down to that area next week. Maybe it's a good thing I'm not a water person. I'll stick to walks on the beach.

Florida actually just had a day of fish the Lions.It was a derby and prizes were given out.I guess they are good eating also.

When I was in the Turks last year I saw at least 3 of them.  The dive operators actually encourage killing them since they are non-endemic species and essentially have no predators.  They are causing quite a bit of species stress in that area.

I suggested an alternative to killing them - trap and sell.  There are enough swimming about to capture at least a dozen a day where I was.
