Just a bit of imput, I know I have kinda dropped off the face of the earth but I would be interested in helping out when needed, I used to do tons of baby sitting plus I do have my CPR and first aid training.

A movie would be a good idea, or several, Anything fish related or marine related, a few off the top of my head:

Finding Nemo
Flipper
Free Willy
Reef
Magic in the water (More suited to older children)
Serendipity (the pink water dragon thingy)
Little mermaid
Seabert (if anyone can find it)
Sally and sampson (better for older children, slightly scary but great conservation message)

As not all kids are going to sit forever and watch movies having activity pages and crayons would be a must, Maybe also some healthy snacks and some small treat (keeping in mind allergies and ages)

I know when I was little (around grade three) we had a lady do a program at lunch where we made little animals and fish out of sculpey and she would take them home and bring them back the next time cooked (it's a type of non toxic clay that cures under heat) and we would make another so on...etc etc..  This would be suitable for children around 5 and up, and they could make Nemo and dory or whatever. (this is lead by someone teaching them to roll the clay out and make the shapes and put it all together)

we kind of shelved this project until a later time! My son no longer attends the meetings as it's too late at night when we get home (past 11!) and all the other kids disappeared! Maybe a separate kids activity like a trip to the museum would be more in order!!

Hey everyone!

I'm not sure if this has already been discussed or not, but I thought more folks might attend the meetings if they had available child care.
Sooooo...I am willing to set up or work with someone to set up an activity area for kids so that the parents can relax and get absorbed into the meetings instead of worrying about the kiddos :)

Questions, comments, suggestions ???

Thanks!  :)

Sorry for quoting the OP from so long ago, but it is relevant in my case.  I've been on the ovas website for years, and though I've considered joining ovas as an official member I long ago decided against it as I knew that there really wasn't much point for me.  There have been a number of meetings I wished to attend, particularly the annual auctions.  The auction a few weeks ago was the very first time I was able to attend any ovas event.  Why?  Well, let me just say that I was a lot more free years ago before I had kids.  Now I pretty much have one "free night" each week, which often does not coincide with ovas meeting dates, and I typically have higher priorities to do other things.

I guess what I am saying is that maybe I could sneak out for an ovas meeting if the kids were to disappear along with me.  My wife could easily be convinced to be home alone  ::)   Sooooo... if anything along such lines does happen then please let me know.  It *might* make the difference to transform me from being exclusively a website lurker to an actual member.  Maybe (there are a number of other factors for consideration, like schedule conflicts, interest of kids, etc).

I would LOVE to actually get to know some of you, and perhaps become more involved with the community.  You guys/gals are awesome!

Depending on the age of your kids, some people bring them and they seem to have no problem sitting still.  Sometimes they show for part of the meeting.  If you have never been it might be worth checking out.  As of now we have no activities for them and I think for legal reasons we can't offer baby sitting.  You are welcome to bring them and see how they do.
