No, after your cap you pay overage charges.

In Ontario the cap is 25 Gb. In Quebec its 60Gb. This is for all ISPs who use Hell's infrastructure.

ISPs using Robbers infrastructure will have UBB added in the summer.

From my understanding, only smaller ISP (i.e. wholesalers that buy internet from bell, such as teksavvy that used to have unlimited plans) will see their rates for large plans increase (or speed decreased) and unlimited plans disappear.. However Bell and Rogers (that have had bandwidth caps for a while) will not be affected as they don't offer unlimited plans.

http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/02/02/national-post-editorial-board-people-should-pay-for-the-internet-they-use/

If you visit the bell page, you have the option of purchasing their internet «performance» plan for x$ giving you 25gb and adding an extra 40gb (insurance as they call it) for 5$ a month. If you needed more, it seems you could upgrade to their «fibe» internet (however I'm not familiar with these services).

Plans:
http://internet.bell.ca/index.cfm?method=content.view&content_id=17737&language=en&CFID=116000740&CFTOKEN=25109202

Now I don't agree with bell for the same reasons as everyone. In fact I'm very tempted to switch over to Primus whom offers 25gb for 35$ +15$ for an extra 120gb. Would probably cost me the same I'm paying with bell now but with more bandwidth and less money going to bell.

EDIT: In short, smaller ISP(internet service providers) that use to buy wholesale internet from bell and rogers and resell it offering unlimited plans (that rogers and bell don't have) will no longer be able to.

A cap = NO MORE DATA at 25gb.   Are you sure you're using that word correctly? (god i hope not)...

So March 1st you download a 25gb file (or files) and then you get NO MORE INTERNET, No email, no nothing until April?  That would be a cap.

God please tell me no.

Technically that is true.  If you want to use more then 25G then you have to pay.  So I would say its a CAP.

Also as a side note.... at 75% usage they slow your connection down to 64kbit/sec  instead of 5mb.. so thats another *annoy me* tactic.

Guys, can we please talk about this subject at the next OVAS meeting in person? I'm getting close to my bandwidth limit and have to leave OVAS.ca for the rest of the month.

I enjoyed this one...

I did not enjoy this one.... Makes me want to swear and throw things....

This activity will simply cut Canada into a 3rd world country.

By comparison, only the rich will afford access to the internet and as a country we will fall behind as the percentage of population that is engaged with these services decreases in comparison to other countries.

From what I've read, it seems the Conservatives have heard the message loud and clear. Doesn't look like this plan is going to see the light of day anytime soon. Now, if we could just do something about the HST on home heating fuels, among other things. But for that to happen, Nanny McGuinty would have to take the bubblegum out of his ears.

I recieved an email from Primus a couple of days ago saying they are pushing back UBB until CRTC completes their review.

I've already sent that email to the CRTC. :)

QuoteDear TekSavvy Customer,

Because of your support and participation in reaching out to the
various MPs and the Minister of Industry we're pleased to announce
that the March 1st UBB implementation date has been suspended indefinitely.

With over 460,000 signatures having been sent to Parliament Minister
Clement and the Industry committee requested the CRTC review its
recent decision in full, which it has obliged and are now doing.
Until this review has occurred UBB over DSL has been completely
shelved.  Minister Clement also added they would overturn the review
should it resemble in any way to the previous outcome!

So, congratulations to all who've spoken up about this issue, you've
made a huge difference.  As a Canadian, today, I can honestly say it's
refreshing to know politicians do listen and will affect change when
the public at large shows concern!

Effective March 1st we are going to move forward and make changes to
the Usage, but we're going to make it a positive one!

We are reinstating the Unlimited package but the 200GB package will be
changed... to 300GB!  UBB is about Internet Costs, and as a result of
lower costs with our providers (Peer1, Lime Light, etc...), costs
outside our relationship with companies like Bell, we are extending
the savings on to you, the clients... Enjoy!

PS - To view your usage or receive more details on reinstated/upgraded
packages go to http://myworld.teksavvy.com. Please note that usage on
the Customer Portal is currently only available to DSL users. We are
working towards adding this option to all of our Cable users.

I got tired of OpenMedia's weekly cries for just $5 more to match company xyz... I have placed them in the "opportunistic" category.
