Wind Damage?

One neighbor who had removed all the grass from his front yard and covered it in gravel (ugly!) had a 20 year old spruce uproot... He had it coming for removing the support that you get from a strong grass root system.

I HOPED my rickety old fence would have blown down, but no such luck.  Power didn't even go out for me.

Very unlikely grass could have prevented the tree from coming down. Considering trees have several feet of roots compared to a few inches of weak grass roots.

Several evergreens came down in Bridlewood. They catch the wind much better than most trees.

Lost power on Thursday in early afternoon.
Power was not restored until late Sat evening.

I topped up my FW tank with some warm water, since it had dropped about 6 degrees, but wasn't about to do more than that (hey, they're tough :)

But in our neighbourhood, it was a 40 year old pine that took out some power lines, and another neighbour had a 40-year old tree crash into their roof... Took another couple days for the crews to take the tree away, and I wish I could have been there to see it being done. The entire upper portion of the tree was leaning over the house (bungalow). No way to just cut off the top and let it fall - it would need to be boom-crane lifted as it was being cut.

Our own yard was covered with small branches/twigs from our mature maple. At least this way, after cleaning up, there will be fewer branches falling throughout the summer season!
